Criminal Defense

Criminal defense as been a focus of Joyce Law Firm since the firm’s beginning and the team we have assembled is a reflection of that focus.  Our featured criminal defense attorney, Charlcee Small brings substantial experience to the table, having worked for both the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Arkansas and the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office where she tried hundreds of cases involving criminal and traffic issues.

Over the years, people have often asked our attorneys, “How can you represent criminals?” We smile every time we hear it – maybe they never took that cookie from the cookie jar when their mother said “no” or have never done anything else wrong their whole lives. Maybe their brothers, sisters, sons or daughters, cousins, nieces and nephews never have either. Even so, we think that question is self-righteous; or naïve at best.  People make mistakes and we do our best to help them recover from their mistakes without ruining their future lives and the lives of those who love them.

Unfortunately, in our experience, innocent people are frequently accused, arrested, and charged with crimes they did not commit. We try to help these people prove their innocence (even though innocence is supposed to be presumed until guilt is proven). We have a great record of getting criminal charges dismissed or reduced, and when we cannot do either of those, we have earned many “not guilty” verdicts at trial, including a “not guilty” verdict in a Murder I trial.

When our clients have committed a crime, we at Joyce Law Firm try our best to help our clients get a fair shake from both the government and courts.  We also do everything we can to help them learn from and not repeat their mistake.  If necessary, our criminal defense attorneys work closely with our immigration practice group to assist in crafting pleas with the least damaging immigration consequences possible.

Whether representing the guilty or the innocent, it takes a zealous advocate to take on the government, be that local, state, or federal, and all its resources and hold it to the rules of our great Constitution. That is that we do.
